Should I paint my 1965 Ford Mustang before I work on the rest of the car?

I have 1965 Ford Mustang Coupe. It it runs but it needs some work done to it. I am not sure if I should get it painted before I start working on the rest of it or not. I have been told to get it painted first because they will strip it and gut it so they can sand blast it and paint it. I was also told to get it painted last because you don’t want the paint job to get messed up while you are working on it. I have looked through many different books and nothing has told me which to start with. Can anyone give me some guidance?

The mechanical work and tires last.

Do all the mechanical work first and make sure it all works and fits well. Then take it all apart and do the body and paint. Put it back together, add interior and glass, enjoy the car.
