Is it OK to supercharge a 2005 Ford Mustang GT WITHOUT an intercooler?

By admin | June 16, 2008

Peter Piper asked:

I am considering buying a used 2005 Ford Mustang stock GT and supercharging it. The best supercharger for the Mustang GT appears to be a Whipple twin Screw type that produces about 6 psi of boost, and as a result improves HP at the rear wheels to about 405, which is is pretty dramatic. However, this Whipple setup does NOT come with an intercooler. My question is, is it “safe” to bolt on this much power without an intercooler??? Thanks for your answers.

The benefit to cooler is that you can run more power without increasing cylinder temps too high.

u can do it…but make sure..you replace water pump and flush out radiattor…and make sure fuel system is up to par…..overheating or running lean will kill engine fast..

The hood can kill your engine down and it was keeping temps under the engine and rob some horses hope that helps.

A intercooler is need on a turbocharged engine, not a supercharged engine.

I would recommend a vortex supercharger with intercooler…You can run more boost with a intercooler plus your car will run cooler.
