Is a 1967 ford mustang hardtop roof compatible with a 1966 ford mustang?

By admin | March 9, 2008

BIG C asked:

I have a 1967 ford mustang and all I need now to finally be done with restoring it is the hardtop, so one of my boys has a old 1966 ford mustang laying in his yard and he was willing to cut the the hardtop off of it and give it to me so I can finish my “1967 ford mustang”. appreciate the help thank you……(had to be very specific)

I could be wrong, but I believe there is a slight difference in dimension. Just different enough to make it impossible.
I’m pretty sure that 65 & 66 are identical, 67 & 68 are identical regarding major body components.
I don’t think it will work.

Make sure to look at all the detailing on both tops. If everything is basically the same, I see no reason why they would not be compatible. The 66 and 67 model years are basically the same as far as body style. Good luck!

Not the same car at all. The 66 was a smaller car. 1967 saw major changes in the Mustang design.

There’s too many variables in order to get the 66 to fit. Width, length, rear sails, window curvature, etc

This is not a good idea. Better to shop outside to other venues/towns to solve your problem.

2 totally different cars, the 1964 1/2 to 1966 Mustangs are smaller than the 1967 1968 coupes. You have them both there take measurements.

No it will not fit. The 66 is a smaller car than the 67. The length will be different, along with several other dimentions. You will need to find one for a 67/68 Mustang for it to work.
      Good luck!
