How do I drive a 2000 Ford Mustang in the snow?

By admin | January 3, 2009

KMan asked:

Does anybody out there have any tips? 2000 Ford Mustang GT (8 cylinder manual transmission)…spins like a top on the snow. Took me an hour and a half to get home from school the other day and I only live 5 minutes away! It was pathetic and really frustrating. If anybody has any tips, I would sure appreciate it! Thank you! :)

Get winter tires. They have little spikes on them that increases grip.

Sounds like you are dealing with ice? You might have to invest in snow chains. Also, use very little gas, keep it slow, overexaggerate manuevers i.e. turns, braking! Remember you are dealing w/ a rear wheel drive machine, so you really have to prepare for turns. Also, you may not have the proper tires for your enviroment, when I lived in missouri i had tires that dealt with snow and rain, now in california, I use tires that hold up to extreme heat.

      Good luck

The best thing to do is keep the car in first or possibly second gear at the max. Pretend like there is a egg beneath your accelerator so just barley press on it. This should allow you to stop spinning in the snow.

The traction in the weight you need to gain the traction in good pair of sand or 2nd gear and very slowly steer in if.
The weight you will have the weight you get enough traction you get some bricks or cement that has not been mixed.

The rear trunk if you can swing it youll never know its the same car.

i cant believe that people forgot how to drive rear wheel drive cars anymore since the front and all wheel drives are out there.
it sounds like this is a young person that aint old enough to remember- but the best thing is like most people said was weight in the trunk and good winter tires and try to drive alot slower to get traction-ice on roads is a different thing- there is not much you can do-even in 4×4 s you can go off the road
