The Mustang GT has a 4.6 V-8, 16 valves per cylinder the Cobra also has a V-8 but its a 32 valve engine,4 valves per cylinder and its supercharged, the Bullit also has a V-8 its also 32 valves but its normaly aspirated,no forced induction. The Roush,Gt 500 are also V-8 engines.
Not all GT’s are a V8. An example is the 1982 Mustang gt. The F code was a 157 hp 302 and the 255 cid was a 120 hp V8 but the A code was a 140cid 2.3 liter that put out 86 hp, The B code was a 200 cid 6 cylinder that put out 87 hp. These were all GT’s.
Another example was the 1984 GT-350. The 3, F and M code engines were V8’s but the A,T, asnd W codes were 140 CID 2.3 liter four cylinder engines. All of these cars had GT-350 on the doors.
These were the years prior to the Fuel injected 5.0. After this time era was when all GT’s were in fact a V8.
This id also true for the LX models, which has to do with the trim. The LX could have had the 2.3 or the 5.0 engine.
Yes, when you get a Gt its a v8 reguardless of the year. The one guys f codes and a codes are screwed up codes. The 4cylindars and 6 cylindars were lx modles. Gt is a performance lable for Ford like the ss lable is performance for Chevrolet. I mean who would pay more money for the GT package with a 4 cylindar or a 6 on a Mustang ?
No, in the 64,65,66,67,68,69,70,etc’s. They were only GT’s if they were high performance cars. Later, in the 80’s they became GT’s if they had an 8. Also, some 80’s cars with a turbo 4 cyl were badged GT.

No, some are Cobras, some are Mach 1s, some are Shelbys. On the older style Fox body Mustangs, the LX model had a 5.0 V8, as well as the GT.

NO. There are LXs in the 1990s that are 5.0L V8s as well. Mainly from mid 80s-1993. As of 1994, GT=V8 (no more LX model).
