May 22, 2008 By: admin Category: mustang

compaq asked:

I have a 06 mustang v6 and warranty until 36K miles. I was wondering when mustangs start to have problems so i can have an idea when to sell it. I also heard that the mustang is ford’s best car but debatable

Usually the first problem you notice is the nut behind the steering wheel.

Wow I’ve waited 30 years to use that joke.

I drove one (an older one) for 100,000 miles and sold it because I thought it might be near the end, The next owner put on 50,000 more trouble free miles before he crashed it. I don’t think there will ever be a problem as long as you look after it

Take care of it by following the maintenance schedule, checking the filters, brakes, tires, wipers. Use quality fuel from Shell, Mobil, BP, or Chevron not the cheap stuff.

Drive it hard once in a while, because it is a Mustang, but don’t go beserk by flooring it to the next stop light.

I have owned Mustangs for over 20years and had no real problems than normal than any other car. They are very dependable, no debate. If you maintain your car and follow the service manual you should get at least 100,000 miles without any real problems. It’s the people that change the oil every 10,000 miles and never do anything else but put gas in it that will cause any car to give up the ghost…

These body styles are still new (as it’s basically a new car .. the motor used is a different design used in other models but never in the mustang before) and only now starting to see them with 50,000 miles on them (people don’t drive them like they do say a pickup truck racking on miles)

Haven’t had any real issues with these cars other than maintaince, a few nit picks about the trim and occasional check engine light… any major problems with these cars were 10 years ago with head gaskets (but that was a completely different car with a completely different motor than what you have)

As long as you are under warranty there should be no worries. As far as problems, all cars ave problems so it all depends on how much you enjoy your car and how long you want to keep it. I have worked on many of the new mustangs and mileage has varied from 30 miles to 80,0000 miles. Thee main prob that I am seeing in the new mustang is that they are having a problem with the Smart junction box(GEM module) located in the rt kick panel. There seems to be a programming issue causing strange things to happen, also some water leaks into that module causing corrosion in th pin connectors. If this happens to you ie..strange things happening take it to a ford dealer. Sometimes it may take a while to diag, but we can find the prob and get you back on the road.

I have a 2006 Mustang as well. It only has 4,000 miles on it, but I heard from friends that had older models that they are very reliable for a long time. I don’t think I will EVER sell my Mustang! I love it. As for wheither or not the Mustang is Ford’s best car, I personally think so, but I doubt that there has ever been a study done to prove so. Maybe I think that because I love mine so much! ;-) Enjoy your Mustang!

3 /36 or buy extended warranty if you are so worried about it. i have had 7 mustangs not 1 stranded me or broke down keep up oil changes maintenance etc and they’ll run an easy 200k miles.and dont worry about having to sell it.. it wont have problems… and if you still wanna sell it at least it will hold great resale value
