1999 Ford Mustang: How do I change the shift knob?

By admin | June 11, 2009

Nathan M asked:

I bought a 1999 Ford Mustang a while back and the previous owner had put a knob on the shifter that has lights and stuff - not really my style. When I bought the car, it came with the original shifter knob in the glove box, but I cannot seem to figure out how to take the current one off and replace it with the original. I have pulled up on it, tried to twist it off, tried to push down and twist… Does anyone know how to do this? Thanks.

you should be able to just twist it off, they may haev tightened it on hard, so you might have to break out the tools to get it to move. good luck

Pull up extremely hard , but watch your nose and eyes , You could hit yourself (thats how much strength it takes to get off)

An assembly and bezel assembly and bezel assembly and it will snap out dont forget to bolts that secure the shift lever hope this helps.
